Palm Springs Golf Championships

January 6 - 9, 2019

The Palm Springs Golf Championships are our newest golf tournaments consisting of a Gross Players Division and multiple Net Players Divisons: YoungGunz, Senior Men, and Womens Flights.

The Gross Players Division is a straight-up gross competition that will be played at the West Coast’s home of golf, PGA WEST. You'll play the same courses the professionals play, just a week before the annual CareerBuilder Challenge. Players in the Net Players Divisions will enjoy world-class golf at La Quinta Resort & Club.

These tournaments are a great way to kick those winter golf blues away in the short-sleeve weather of Palm Springs. Join us in the desert Southwest this upcoming January.

Frequently Asked Questions

Whats Included

The Palm Springs Golf Championships is the newest National Amateur Golf Tournament. The Championships introduce six new exciting components.

FIRST, Is a Gross Player Division - This straight up gross competition will be played at the West Coast’s Home of Golf PGA WEST.
Tuesday and Wednesday, the GROSS competitors will be playing on the same courses that the PGA pros will play in the following weeks CareerBuilder Challange, a PGA Tour event. HOW COOL IS THAT!!

Both the PGA WEST Nicklaus Tournament and Stadium courses will be set up for and be in their finest tournament condition. Viewing stands will surround the key TV holes. Competitors can walk the course just like the pros since these courses are cart path only the week before the tournament. Each player will receive a new Titlest Sunday carry bags at registration. Electric carts are available.

The Monday first round will be played at the PGA WEST Greg Norman course where electric carts will be provided with no cart path restrictions.

The Net Divisions, which consist of the YoungGunz, Senior Men, & Womens Flights will play the world class La Quinta Resort & Club Dunes Course & Mountain Course (former host site to the annual PGA Q-School). They will finish their championships on one of the best public courses in the valley, Desert Willow’s Firecliff course.

SECOND, January is Prime Time in Palm Springs – The Championships are being played in the heart of the prime Palm Springs golf season. The daily highs should be between 60 and 75 degrees. The fairways and greens will be in fantastic condition. Plan to come and enjoy Palm Springs golf at its finest.

THIRD, More Than One Champion is Recognized – The name Palm Springs Golf Championships is plural for a reason. Trophies are awarded to each flight’s first, second and third place finishers. Also, each flight’s gross winner is also awarded a trophy.
There is no fourth day of competition for the flight winners which makes travel planning much easier.

FOURTH are - Daily Cash Honey Pot Payouts - There are daily honey pot payouts for each flight’s top 25% finishers. This is possible since the daily payouts are not paid from the entry fee; but rather from the optional $210 per player honey pot.

The payouts will range (depending on field size) from between $500 and $650 for first place to around $125 for the last payout place.
Except for the trophy competition, which is based on the three day total score, each days payout competition is a stand-alone event.
This payout program has been reviewed with a representative of the USGA. Cash payouts from player provided funds do not cause a player to lose their amateur status.

HOWEVER, if a player wishes to receive their payout in a VISA gift card, just notify The Competition Commetiee at registration prior to the start of the Championships.

FIFTH, Lots of Great Par Three Prizes - Each day The Palm Springs Golf Championships offer innovative and fun par three competitions on each course’s par threes. One par three is the five-foot circle competition. To win a player must be within five feet of the pin. If more than one competitor is inside of five feet, then the closest to the pin wins. Each course’s daily winner gets a $200 VISA gift card. If there is no winner, the payout carries over the next day.

Each of the other par threes is a stay on the green competition. Each player who stays on each green is in a drawing for one of four merchandise prizes. So regardless of how close you are, you have four equal chances to win a prize valued at over $150.

SIXTH - Is a Monday Horse Race – Monday at 2:00, on the Dunes course, join your fellow competitors for a fun afternoon of golf and beverages. The top four teams split the pot 50%, 25%, 15% and 10%. Entry fee is $25.00 per player, all of which goes into the prize fund.

Divisions & Flights

DIVISIONS AND FLIGHTS

The tournament field will consist of four divisions: Gross (no handicaps) Young Gunz (men under age 50), Senior Men (men age 50 and over), and Women (ages 21 and over). Divisions are based on the entrant’s age as of January 7, 2019.

There is only one flight in the Gross Division and they will play the Blue or Championship Tees. The Women’s Division flights will play from the red tees.  The Young Gunz flights will play from either the Black or White Tees.  The Senior Men’s flights will play from either the White or Gold Tees.  A player’s flight assignment in the Young Gunz and Senior Men divisions will be a function of the tees a player elects to play and then by the player’s course handicap.  The Competition Committee is flighting these divisions by tees selected, not by age.

Honey Pots

OPTIONAL HONEY POTS

Each competitor can voluntarily elect to participate in his/her flights daily Honey Pots.

The daily Honey pot payouts ARE NOT financed from the entry fee; rather they are paid out of an optional $70 per day contribution to the Honey Pots.

Each flight has its own Honey Pot.  The top 25% of each flight will be paid out each day.  The payouts will vary range depending on the number of players in each Honey Pot.

We have reviewed this Honey Pot program with the USGA and confirmed these Honey Pot payouts do not result in players playing for “prize money.”

If a player wishes to receive his payout in a VISA gift card notify The Competition Committee at the time of registration prior to the start of the Championships.

Each day’s Honey Pot competition is a stand-alone event for purposes of the cash payouts.  The following are the expected distributions based on three different field sizes:
